Ok so I guess I could just ‘Shoot the Gab’ here, cool! Maybe it might help tire me out. Well I’ve been having a real bad case of Insomnia lately and its killing me. I have a really big project going on at work and I’m just hanging in there. Last night I got 3 hours total sleep, but only an hour to start. I then managed to sneak in a couple of half hour sessions then it was down to 15 min at a time for the rest of the night. Now I have to get up at 3:30 AM and I can’t fall asleep thinking about all I have to do tomorrow. A lot of times I just drive to where I’m working in the middle of the night and try to catch some sleep in my truck. It’s a little dangerous because the copper thieves are out about the same time and one night I caught them leaving as I was pulling in. I’d hate to be asleep in the truck when they arrive. The place I have to be at tomorrow is high in the mountains and not only do I have to worry about copper thieves but also bears because I usually have a lot of food with me for breakfast and lunch. Can’t wait till I retire then I don’t have to worry about sleeping in on a bad night ;D

Funny! So, are you retired yet? Y'know, before I retired & was in a busting business of Computer systems design, programming, and consulting, I ALWAYS had a jar of Tums or Rolaids in my attache case and was popping them almost all of the time... even before I went to bed! After I retired, & got happily into woodworking & NOT watching all of the Blood & Guts News on TV, after a few months, it dawned on me that I hadn't had to pop an antacid tablet! I don't think I've had more than 2 in the last 12 years!!

I have 2 years and 4 months till I can retire with full benefits, but the stress at work is literally killing and I don’t think I’m going to make it that long. Between all the know-it-all kids and all the new safety rules to protect their sorry asses, I may just have to take an early retirement.

Well its 1:30 AM and another night in a thousand just like it. I went to bed early because I was so tired but woke up at midnight. Lay in bed thinking of ways to make some sort of sleeping chamber or pod. I was trying to remember when I had a good night’s sleep last and I have to say it was sleeping in my truck camper with an over cab sleeper. It had a window at my head and one at my feet with the wind blowing through across the length of my body. It was pitch dark and except for the wind I couldn’t hear anything. My mattress was nothing more than a couple of 3” thick foam mats and I have to say it was so much more comfortable then my $3k bed. I lost the camper in a heavy snow storm with the roof caving in and never bought another. So I was thinking about replicating that over cab sleeper and have a large fan blowing fresh air through, I would also have to have it pitch dark inside. I don’t think my wife will allow it inside the house so I may have to build it outside. Oh well I think I now may have another shot at falling asleep again so I guess I have to give it a try because I only have 2 more hours before I have to go to work.

You may be making sleeping a mental block. You can overthink it and become an insomniac. Try a glass of Merlot (the same wine that destroyed my laptop) before going to bed. Have some hootchy cootchy with your wife or girlfriend.
I was never an insomniac, and didn't have any problems sleeping until the Army. I became a very light sleeper, and could almost set a mental alarm clock to wake up at any time. To this day, I don't sleep much past 2-3 AM.

Yep, you could be trying too hard to sleep...
The wine, etc. is a good idea.
We sleep in different rooms because she says I snore too loud... I keep telling her that I don't snore... doesn't bother me a bit. ;D
I have a TV running... serves as a night light as well as something to do, if I can't sleep... eventually, it puts me to sleep. Sometimes, I get hooked on a good movie... then, I really sleep when done.

When I came back from Vietnam I was a really light sleeper waking up for every tiny little noise, then a friend gave me a dog. Once I realized how smart the dog was, I slept like a baby. The dog taught himself to go outside and when he heard something outside he would look outside the window in both directions and would not bark unless he saw somebody. He never barked at cats or raccoons and even invited the raccoons in to share his food which I was not so happy about. Now I have two dogs and one a beagle is not so smart she barks at everything and I’m not sure if she is what’s waking me up or what. I also have a train blowing its horn every two hrs, but it’s far enough away that I only hear it at night

Sometimes, I get hooked on a good movie... then, I really sleep when done. I've been thinking about separate rooms, but my wife gets insulted. She goes to bed at 11:30PM and sleeps til 7:30 AM while I have to be in bed by 9PM to get up by 3:30AM and she usually wakes me up when she goes to bed. I'm usually out cold within 30 sec of laying down, but once I wake up, I can't go back to sleep. I think if she were on my schedule things might be different, but I don't know. Anyway I have tomorrow off, so tonight when I'm up, I think I'm going to clean my shop. I have a friend that ran sprint cars many years ago. He was so hyper that he only slept 3 to 4 hours a night and then work in his shop tearing don and rebuilding engines. One night he had the cops at his door and the entire neighborhood pissed at him because he forgot about the time and fired up his racing engine in the middle of the night. ;D
