I want to dye book case Plywood parts before glueing up (using pocket screws & glue).
The dye i want to use is TransTint, waterbased.
Would an Undyed raw end BUTT glued to a Dyed face of plywood work? If it would, it would be easier to do all of the Dyeing while apart than after it's assembled; which is what I'd like to do.
Do you think it would work OK? ... or Not?
Thank you for your comments.

I do all staining/dying after assembly. I find it easier to prep for finish when all the joinery is complete.

Thank you for your comment... Yes, I have always done it that way too... ... BUT, on book cases & shelves, it seems like I'm upside down quite a bit... and gets to be a pain. I think I'll dye a piece of scrap, let it dry really good, and BUTT glue another piece of not dyed plywood to it... If it breaks easily, I will know it won't work... ... but, if it appears to be strong, it would sure make it easier on my neck, back, etc. I will test it & post my results...

Yellow glue likes porous surfaces. Staining and dying can have a sealing effect. Generally speaking, butt joints are not good joints, even with pocket screws. You disappoint me Joe. You should be using rabbets and dadoes.
If the cabinet is assembled already stained or dyed, prepping for a finish may entail dressing up areas around joints. It's more productive for me to assemble and get all the areas ready to finish and have it uniform.

Mike, I used Pocket screw joinery on the Book-Magazine Cases I made earlier. (1st real project using Pkt. screws) I liked it... I liked the way things went together... SO FAST! A Pocket Screw joint is the same as a Butt joint BUT with Pocket screws as clamps to hold it together (while the glue dries). I figured I'd see how good a plain ole Butt joint (with plywood) worked with one part predyed with nothing but a Glue joint w/o the screws. I know... before I tried the Pkt Screw stuff, it was using dados & rabbets... I have not given up on Pkt Screws as a very poor choice... yet... That's the reason for my madness... ;D
