Last week we tented our home. Status quo it was not. We had our two dogs, three cats, and three aquariums (with live plants) that had to be out of the house. By the time we priced out boarding the animals, including all the fish (yes fish can be boarded), and staying in a hotel, we decided to stay on the property. We did this 8 years ago, but didn't have the fish, and only had two cats then.
So, we rented a 30ft RV from a park, and backed it up in the back yard. We set up an outdoor aquarium for all the fish.We had to double bag (in special bags) foodstuffs that stayed in the house. Other food, refrigerated and frozen items we took into the RV.
We used shore power from an outdoor outlet, but the plug from the RV was reversed...the cord went up instead of down. Once the tent went on we couldn't get to the plug, or the breaker panel. The weight of the cord kept pulling the plug loose. So, I tie wrapped the plug against the box using the weather door. It seemed to hold OK, but was reluctant to run the AC. If for some reason, the plug came loose, or we overloaded the circuit, we would have no power and would have had to fire up the on board generator and that cost $3.50/hr.
The day we returned the unit, one of the cats had hid up under the driver's side dashboard, and we couldn't get her out. She had a good grip with all the wiring under there. It took us a couple of hours to wiggle her out. She has some sharp nails and was groaning a lot...not good.
Wife did the final cleaning and we returned the unit. A few days later when we finally unpacked, the wife realized she left a small bag in the RV. In the bag were 3 digital cameras, a new in the box cam corder, a Garmin Nuvi, and an address book with all our login names and passwords for all our accounts. As soon as we could we called the park, and found out that the unit got rented out that afternoon, for a week. She spent most of Monday night changing all the passwords. Signed up for Life Lock. Many of them she had to call and talk with a CS rep. What a disaster.
So, we know the bag was in there, and if it isn't when the RV is returned (today), either someone on the lot (employees) got it, or the new renters have it. The new renters were unable to be reached all week (so they say), and we are supposed to get a call when it pulls in to be returned. To say the least we aren't totally back to status quo yet.
