Not a big fan of boxes per sec. The fun is in making them. After they are made, what does one do with them? I made a couple of test boxes to try out a new router jig for dove tails and another box for slot/box joints. I made them smallish just to test out the joint techniques and base fitment. Two years later the boxes are still sitting in the workshop collecting dust. I'll probably cut them up and see If I can use the scrap for other projects. If not, the old heave ho into the dumpster. Yes, what to put into them... Good question! My first one was a small box for jewelry that was used fairly often... for my wife. I had a need to keep ALL of our manuals TOGETHER... Like: TV refrigerator, freezer, mixer, band saw, table saw, etc. etc. etc. So, I made a box for them... I also wanted to make a box using hand-cut dovetails... It worked very well and was very functional until it got to be TOO SMALL! So, I had to make another one with more capacity... also used hand-cut dovetails. I'm in the process of making two small boxes for Playing Cards... Box to hold two decks. My wife is a Bridge nut & belongs to several Bridge Playing groups... Looks like I'll be making a few more Card Deck boxes. I like to make boxes for a specific purpose... I decide on what they are going to be used for BEFORE I make them.
