I have a freeform object... No sharp turns or corners.
A. How do I make a Template that I can use to route a hole in a workpiece that the Original object will perfectly Fit INTO?
B. How do I make a Template that I can use to route an exact copy of the Original object?

The questions are too vague Joe. I suspect that they are rhetorical. If you were to state what object you want to copy, then I'm sure that I or others will give you a definitive answer.

Vague? Do you want picture (sketches) and Dimensions?

Harry, That's why I said "No Sharp turns or corners" To clarify... OK, on a piece of paper , letter size, draw the outline of a Cloud... without ANY sharp turns... ... maybe, if you pictures a Liquid poured onto a table top and stopped before it got too big... ... draw that shape on a piece of paper... Transfer the shape to a piece of wood or 1/4" MDF, cut it out, and sand/file to get smooth edges. We now have an Object that I was attempting to describe as a Generic Shape... I am interested in the General instructions of How the Templates are made from the Object... in the two basic form Types (Male / Female if you will). Using Template Guide Bushings and a given Straight Router Bit... Calculating the Increase / Decrease from the Original size of the Object FOR the Template so the results would be the same as the Original... Needing a Template to cut a hole in a sheet where the Original would fit INTO perfectly. AND A template to duplicate the Original object. The use of a FlushTrim BIT is not allowed in this procedure... Now,... I have a freeform object... No sharp turns or corners. A. How do I make a Template that I can use to route a hole in a workpiece that the Original object will perfectly Fit INTO? B. How do I make a Template that I can use to route an exact copy of the Original object?
Then, after this, the same Objectives except with an original Object of say a 5" x 7" block having sharp 90 degree corners. Does that make it Clearer as to what I am after?

Joe, It's pretty simple. You make your cutout and smooth the inside edges. So, what you have now is a free form hole in a substrate..could be Masonite. Then you take your router and fit a bushing in the hole on the base. The bushing acts as a guide on the edge. For what ever router bit you use, there is a spacer that places the cutting edge of the bit in line with your template edge...capeesh? [/IMG] [/IMG]
