Yes, that's my question... Yes, chances are you HAVE grown your own tomatoes... BUT, have you ever made the same plants grow in two years in succession? I have! Yep... this is how it happened... I made 3 planters from some old redwood fencing that I'd collected in the neighborhood. I ended up planting a small tomato plant in each one. We had some good tomatoes... in fact we had a bunch of green tomatoes when the weather was starting to get cold... I didn't want to waste them tomaters... don't ya know... So, I found a large plastic drop cloth and I propped/draped them using clothes pins to attach them to a nearby tree & junipers... to hold it up off the plants. I kept on watering them, but not as often... Tomaters would ripen, & I would pick'em all the way through winter! There were still green ones left so I kept it going... When the weather started to warm up (like Spring!), the final green ones finally ripened & were picked! I though it was over... but I kept on watering them... New green leaves began to show! ... more & more new leaves began to appear... Son of a gun! These suckers still want to GROW! So, I got out the pruning shears and cut all the dead stuff off from last year. More new leaves are still happening... AND, we even have some blooms! Now, have you ever done that? ;D

I've had a garden most every year for 24 years now. I did not grow one last year, because of the bad drought we had here. I've had 'maters come up for 2-3 years in a row, none of which I planted. Seems the rotten tomatoes fell on the ground, and they just sprouted up the next year on their own.
I gotta get out there & till my garden this weekend, if I hope to plant anything this year. Nothing like a home grown tomato. I have to watch my Lab though, because he sneaks under the garden gate & eats my maters right off the bush. ;D

WOW! You're quite the gardener! I've had Volunteer tomatoes before... BUT, have you ever had the SAME Plants stay alive & produce 2 years in a row? This is a first for me... We shall see... will fertilize, etc. to try hard to get it done..

Hey Joe, if you'd like to start your own plants (it isn't hard to do) I can send you some heirloom tomato seeds. I have some cherry tomato seeds that go back to the 1930's. I also have some real Roma tomato seeds, from tomatoes that actually came from Italy.
This offer is open to all members of this forum, BTW.

Sounds good, Herb! I've started my own plants before... I've gotten into the habit of getting my stuff from Henry Fields... ... they are SO GOOD... Wonderful Customer Service & products! We grew Romas in our garden in Eau Claire, WI ... very good & hardy... made great juice! Yes, I'd be interested in a few (variety)! I have a smaller planter that the Cherries would like... and larger ones for bigger ones. Are they Determinate or Indeterminate? Let me know the cost... I could apply it to the Plans... to save some work. Thank you very much!
