I don’t know if this is the right spot for this and if not I apologize. I’m just so frustrated and just want to get it out. I had a guy cut the locks of the gate on Monday, but all the copper was already stolen a while back and hasn’t been replaced yet. I’ve been hit so many times that I’m losing count. I even have video of their faces and they still don’t get caught. This time the sheriff said that they now look for DNA and took the cut pad lock with him. In the past I’ve collected cigarette butts and even a couple drink bottles and beer cans for finger prints, but nothing seems to catch these people. My god why aren’t we allowed to use bobby traps, if not to kill at least be able to chop off a hand or something.

There's been several news stories around here in the last few months about copper thefts. They have hit several churches. One got robbed, got the equipment replaced, and then robbed again. You could booby trap the equipment, but then may become liable for premeditated assault. I remember the story about the farmer that positioned a fixed shotgun as protection. A thief broke in, got shot, and then sued the farmer and won. Doesn't make much sense does it.

I just don’t know why we have to protect criminals. I guess we could post signs warning about bobby traps like I’ve seen with guns warning trespassers may be shot. I just know how all these liability laws came to play anyway. I’ve heard stories of criminals suing for things like broken legs after falling from a roof or something.
We used M18 Claymores in Vietnam and I think we should be able to use them to protect our property in our own country. It sure would eliminate of a lot bad guys and cleanup the gene pool.
They’ve been stealing the copper wire and Air Conditioner parts from schools for a long while now and I think it was just yesterday that I heard someone cut up a bronze statue. Now I think a scrap metal place who accepts a 5ft bronze human shaped arm should immediately notify the authorities or go straight to jail and the business be shutdown. How can anybody be so stupid to not be suspicious of a bronze or brass body part from a couple of scum bags.

Instead of a booby trap, I would rather catch them in the act. They would wish the cops got them.

I built these concrete camera boxes up close to the fence in hopes of capturing a license plate, but these guys are now walking in. I guess I need to camouflage them. The last guy had a tee shirt wrapped around his head and although I got a good video of him, there is nothing to identify him except that he may be Hispanic. I hand mixed four of these concrete boxes and even hand dug the trenches for the conduit and now I’m thinking it wasn’t worth the effort.

Johnny, Have you thought of getting a herd of Wrautweilers or Dobermans, trained to NOT eat in the yard and wearing protective vests? Bells, cans, connected to heavy fishline set to trip alarms might work too... No Trespassing signs on fence every 25' wouldn't hurt either... BEWARE of DOGS signs also (even if you don't have any). Have a few shotguns handy, to be ready to go as soon as an alarm is setoff... and a cell phone ready for 911... I think I'd even try leaving my clothes on, sleeping in a chair with guns, etc. near, with good view & close to alarms, also having a powerful flashlight ready with video camera, and just waiting for them to show. OH, the cameras that you have probably have motion sensors to control the cameras... check to see if they have Contacts available to trigger alarms, etc. (complete an alarm circuit). Trip an audio blast of Barking Dogs!! Hope this gives you a little Food for Thought... Good Luck & thanks for keeping us posted...

Actually the cameras do have the ability to send an alarm, but there are also big ravens that roost nearby that are always set them off. There isn’t any neighbor’s real close by, but it’s pretty quiet at night and I’m sure it cause problems with being a good neighbor. I’ve gone there a number of times around 4 AM and just driving up the dirt road has dogs barking miles around.
Up until Friday I had them set on motion detection and missed most of the video of the intruder inside the fence, because of a raven on the back side of the building hogging up all the disk space & record time. I changed 3 of the eight cameras to record 24/7 but it means I’ll have to go to the site at least once a week to check for vandalism otherwise it will run out of space and start recording over.
I usually stop by 2 or 3 times a week anyway, but there are times when I get real busy at other sites and don’t make it for a couple of weeks. Dogs wouldn’t work because there’s nobody to feed or water them. I like the idea of protective vests though.
There was a news story about an electrical supply or a contractor someplace in east LA that was constantly being robbed of copper and the thieves would even use his own forklifts to load it up in their trucks. He enlisted the help of trained guard dogs but the crooks shot the dogs. I believe the last thing I heard was that he was going to hire a security guard to watch the place.
I went up one time about 3 or 4 years ago really early one morning just after copper thieves left my site and was at a cell site nearby. They did not hear me coming and when I found my gate wide open as I arrived, I walked around to the back of the building to check things out. I then saw flashlights and talking from the other site, so I went back to the truck to get my binoculars and when I got back they started shooting at the antennas on my building. I don’t think they ever knew I was there, but there were bullets ricocheting all around me so I hightailed it out of there and called 911.

I didn't know it was at a remote site(s).
How about some Tire puncturing strips? ... enough to kill at least two tires on one vehicle...
Sounds like these sights are out in the sticks miles away from you!!
Why do you store Copper way out there? ... aren't you just asking for trouble?
Sounds like you also need an AK-47 to fight them!!
I guess they do their stealing during the daytime?!
What is the purpose of these remote sights... fenced & gated...??

They are microwave communication sites and the wire is not being stored, it’s in use. They steal the grounding and lighting protection wires as well as the coax wires to antennas. It doesn’t matter what it is, if they can get their hands on it, they will take it. They also take air conditioning equipment and the Sheriff says they also steal propane from the big tanks used for the engine generators, but I haven’t had that yet. We need the generators because they climb up the poles and cut the Southern Ca Edison wires while they are hot. I just love to see photos like this and makes me feel that there is some justice. I just wish there were more of it. Frankly I just don’t know why there isn’t from all that they do.

OK, they repeaters? Using mountain top stations too?
What Company is using them?
How about electrified fences and Razor Wire on top?
Microwave will Cook'em... possible to have a network of beams going around the perimeter with Warning Signs... "Trespassers Will Be Cooked"...
"The animals like you medium rare"...
To be controlled by special wireless Remotes...
Those dummies sure had guts without brains didn't they?
