The picture you want to use must be on the Internet somewhere... and you have Copied the URL of The picture.
Click your Profile, then click Modify your Profile...
In the Avatar section, Paste the URL into the area for it.
The size of the picture at THAT URL will be reduced in size to meet the size that you enter, below.
Change the Avatar size to what you want it to be (I used 100 x 75 for mine - rectangle).
That Max. is 100 x 100.
Here is a way to get you picture on to the Internet... as an example.
First, read & understand the "Inserting Pictures" thread.
woodworkstuffforum.freeforums.net/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=17
Using www.Tinypic.com image hosting site or other hosting site, upload the picture you want to use as your Avatar.
Example: using Tinypic site.
After you Choose the picture you want from your computer
(click choose, click the folder (path) to get to the Folder it's in, select the Image file you want to upload, & click Open).
The box next to Choose, will now contain your picture Filename.
Note: Your picture does NOT have to be resized for the Avatar BEFORE you upload it... Tinypic will do that.
Click the Radio Button for "Avatar" (this makes it a small Avatar image)
(if you're not using Tinypic or are going to use a larger picture as an Avatar, forget the Avatar button)
Click "UPLOAD"... soon it will be done.
You will see your picture and a few lines of code.
Select & Copy (Ctrl C) the URL line that starts with HTTP.
Now change Windows to THIS Woodworkstuff forum and go to your Profile.
Click "Modify Profile".
A ways down, on the left you will eventually see a line for AVATAR URL.
Paste (Ctrl V) your Picture URL into that box.
The maximum size is 100 x 100 pixels.
If yours is in Landscape orientation, enter Width of 100 and Ht of 75.
If Portrait, enter Width of 75 and Ht of 100.
If Square, make it 100 and 100.
Below that there is a line for Avatar Text... This text will be displayed below your Avatar.
Enter text as you desire.
Click "Modify Profile".
Done!
You should see your new Avatar on all of your posts.
