This toolbox measures 26" wide, 14" deep, and 16" high, and weighs 56 lbs. It's Red Oak, stained with sprayed water based polyurethane. . . . . This one is similar, but done in a natural Red Oak. . .

Hi Mike,
I just happened to think... You've been taking that BioFlex stuff for your knee and getting help from it... It seems to me that your finger joints should also be getting better... LOL
Possible to get a few more details about these tool boxes? LOL
Sure look good...
... only if you feel like it... of course... LOL

Hey Mike, Anything New on this! Sure looks like a NICE & COOL tool box! Joinery... etc. Thank you. OK Joe, you asked for it. I'll give you a general overview, dimensions, and joinery. With that, you should be able to make a plan. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I appreciate whatever you can do as far as drawings. A GENERAL OVERVIEW, SPECS, DIMENSIONS, JOINERYThe two ends are made as a frame and panel...I make them first. The fronts of those panels are prepped for an M&T where the top rail and bottom rail intersect. That joinery could also be done with half laps. The rear stile is rabbeted ¼" deep and ¾" wide to accept a ¾" plywood back. The overall height of the panel is 13½". The overall width of the end panel 14". The top rail is 3", and the stiles and the bottom rail are 2". The inside edges are rabbeted to accept a ¼" plywood panel in a rabbet ¼" deep, x ½" wide. IOW, the plywood panel sits flush to the inside of the panel. The back of the box is ¾" plywood (if your plywood is not ¾", allow for that), with a ¾"x¾" solid wood top edge. When the wood edge is attached it should be 1/32" short of the end panel, so there is room for a piano hinge to sit flush to the top of the end panel. The top edge is glued to the plywood, and the plywood is glued into the rabbet, so the back of the plywood is flush with the edge of the end panel. The front of the box top rail is 3", and the bottom rail is ¾" laid flat...4" wide. The overall opening without drawers is 10" high, and 24 1/8" wide. The lid is ¾" plywood with a solid wood edge 2" high. The top edge of the wood is flush to the plywood and the corners are done with a simple miter. The back edge wood is 1/32" short to allow for the other leaf of the piano hinge. The inside tray under the lid is ¾" plywood, and the bottom of it is flush with the bottom edge of the front rail to the box. It should be 2 ¼" inside depth. This piece keeps the horizontal square of the box, and the back keeps the vertical square, so, when done, there's no racking at all. The drawers are 23 1/16" wide, and 12" deep. There is ¼" bottoms in a ¼"x¼" groove. Drawer sides are 1 7/8", and inside depth is 1 3/8". The drawer fronts for the three equal drawers are 2 1/8". The bottom drawer has sides that are 2 5/8", and an inside depth of 2 1/8" That drawer front is 3" high. When installed, there should be at a maximum... 1/8" gaps. The 12" cabinet member slides mount to the front and rear stiles of the end panel, so there is solid wood for attachment. If you do your layout for the slides, you could punch/drill pilot holes when the end panels are loose (before assembly). The drawer members are ¾" plywood with wood edging. They are joined with rabbeted sides. Overall measurements are...front to back...14" Overall height with lid closed...15½" prox. Overall width...25 5/8" prox. Weight (done with Red Oak)...53 LBS I think I covered everything. If something doesn't make sense, or I made a mistake and numbers don't add up, I'll make the changes. Again..thanks. .

I will play with it in my spare time... (Sketch-Up) (If anyone wants to use SU to make some plans, be my guest... SU does NOT like me). IOW... What does it mean? Can't figure it out. See Bold Quote... Looks real COOL! I'm glad your fingers / hands made it through it OK. Thank you again, very much.

Joe, How are you getting along with your eyes? Thought I would finally answer a question you asked..."IOW... What does it mean? Can't figure it out. See Bold Quote.... It means In Other Words.
I don't mean to push you but have you been able to put anything together for drawings? If it's too much for you now, I can ask on another forum where there are many SketchUp experts. maybe one of them will do me a favor. Let me know.

As far as the SU plans go... I have not started...
I didn't think you were in a hurry...
I can start thinking about it... & play with it...
I'm thinking of just drawing enough to fully draw the Front & End profiles...
... then going from there...
I am Nowhere close to an Expert with SU... It would probably take me 10 times as long or longer that it would an Expert...
My guess... an expert would probably have it done in 2hrs. or less... It might take me 10-15 hrs... over 2+ days... allowing for the FRUSTRATION rest Ups!
Sorry...

Well that really is a nice tool chest CabinetMan. I've wanted to make one for a long, long time and I think I even have plans for one in an old woodworkers magazine. I don't even remember what it looked like now, but I now it didn't have drawer slides. I never started it because I never had time or room for one, but I'm hoping that after I retire I'll be able to make all those projects on my list. ;D
